Choice of the Trusteeship

Socio-territorial diagnosis of the Alto Rio Doce (MG)

“This book presents the analyzes and results of the research work carried out by the PROATER team – Program for Articulation and Strengthening of Technical Assistance and Rural Extension for the Sustainable Development of Municipalities in the Rio Doce Basin in Minas Gerais, linked to the Federal University of Vicious.

It is a rich systematization of characteristics of the rural environment of five municipalities in Minas Gerais affected by the Fundão dam failure: Barra Longa, Mariana, Ponte Nova, Rio Doce and Santa Cruz do Escalvado.

Based on the analyses, socio-productive processes and demographic aspects are revealed, and structuring agendas are built for the establishment of sustainable rural development strategies, with an emphasis on family farming – the predominant segment in the territorial agrarian structure.”
